Meet the Most Under Rated Artist in the Business

August 13th, 2008

My very good friend introduced me to Darren Hayes' music. As you listen, you may recognize the sound: he was the former frontman for Savage Garden.

Darren is an amazing performer, lyricist, and vocalist. All of his songs have a deep personal connection and his albums represent a progression of his emotional being. His talent has been recognized abroad in his native Australia, as well as in the UK where he consistently sells out large venues. However the US has yet to embrace him with equal passion.

Darren is a risk taker, often experimenting with electronic beats and provocative lyrics, which ultimately led him to drop his label and start his own independent company called Powdered Sugar.
I highly recommend checking out both of his albums; "The Tension and the Spark" (2004) and "These Delicate Things We've Made" (2007).

Below is a clip of Darren performing the song "Casey" from his recently released live tour DVD "The Time Machine Tour"

Finally, a Jonas Brothers Song I Like

August 7th, 2008

I never thought I'd be posting about these guys, despite all their hype. I've checked out most of the songs that have ruled the top ten charts for the past year now from S.O.S. to Tonight to Burnin' Up and just haven't gotten into it. Maybe it's because I'm a 25-year old male and not a screaming pre-pubescent female. Well today my inner high school girl has come out and I've fallen in love with a JB song!!! It's called "A Little Bit Longer" and is currently ruling the Itunes top charts. It is reminiscent of old Backstreet Boys songs I once loved. I'm totally crushing on Nick Jonas now who leads vocals on the whole song... enjoy below and discover your inner Jonas Brother....

Espionage

August 4th, 2008

This song is absolutely beautiful.... you'll fall in love with it instantly. It's by a multi-talented Norwegian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Espen Lind. HIs music has been popular in Europe and Latin America since 1995, and he even garnered a Norwegian Grammy in 1998. Most recently he has been doing a lot of song writing and notable, he co-wrote Beyonce's hit "Irreplaceable" and Chris Brown's "With You." Well check out some of his own music below on his single "Scared of Heights."

Miley Cyrus Needs To Retire Already... Another Reason Why!

August 4th, 2008

Because I absolutely hate Miley Cyrus and find her the most obnoxious person on the planet, I'm posting this blog in honor of her competition and newest rival, Demi Lovato. Demi's come out with a great pop song that I bet Miley wishes she had her hands on, especially since she hasn't had a song I've found worth paying any attention to since "See You Again."

Anyway, the Disney Channel is churning out stars now adays and Demi Lovato is the next big one! She stars opposite the Jonas Brothers in Disney's movie "Camp Rock," and is presently on tour with the Jonas trio. Interesting factoid about Miss Lovato: her first television role (with best friend and also talented Disney starlet, Selena Gomez) was none other than Barney! Yes the big purple dinosaur. Look how far she's come... now check out her first single "Get Back."

Katy Perry as Katy Hudson?

July 30th, 2008

When I was in high school, I worked at a local Christian music store. I would frequently bring home new CDs to check out to play in-store. One day I discovered an artist by the name of Katy Hudson whose sound I really liked. Unfortunately her album didn't pick up a lot of interest and never sold that well in our store. Still I loved the album and played it often while I worked.

Well recently an artist by the name of Katy Perry has started gaining a lot of public interest with her hit "I Kissed a Girl." I thought I had recognized her voice but wasn't sure from where. I just recently found out that Katy Perry was in fact once my favorite Christian singer Katy Hudson. Her Christian record label, Red Hill Records, went under and for reasons unknown she changed her name. Soon after she signed with the same production team as Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears: The Matrix... and the rest is history.
